Our last show of London Fashion Week is DONE and we are BACKKK!! The past 6 days staring at catwalks and clothing, and clothing on catwalks has been tremendously hectic but equally as crazy fun and inspiring! We’ve just collapsed down at our desk with a pile of press releases and the task of telling you loonz what we thought of some of the LFW shows that we saw. We’ve decided to break it down into two parts for you because there is A LOT to cover and we want to give your brains some breathing/ processing space. SO, let’s get started with the part 1, aka “fuckin’ mad”, think kitsch maximalism, bold choices and a heck of a lot of glitter! We’re talking ASHISH, Fyodor Golan, Molly Goddard and Natasha Zinko…
17/02/17 am, the BFC show space. Fyodor Golan is one we’ve been dying to see for a while and with Powerpuff Girls sat awaiting us on our seats we we’re pretty sure this was going to be some crazy good sh**. Some of the words we could use to describe this show are: vibrant, active, bold, and futuristic…definitely futuristic. We were huge fans of the Post-it note references, it’s always good when your obsession with stationary makes it onto the runway.
Did we peak too early with this one? We thought so.
18/02/17 pm, the Topshop show space (Tate Modern.) Chocolate brownies (yes, the fa$hun industry do eat), prosecco and green juice greeted us at the Tate. This was followed by 2 long elaborately dressed dinner tables in the middle of the catwalk- the models would sit on these later, “drink” wine and “chat” to each other.
Molly Goddard AW17 was everything you would expect, completely elaborate, frilly, colourful and sort of fancy dress-esque. Basically a dinner party at an oversized dolls house. We we’re also pleased to see the giant blueberry, (insert Willy Wonka reference) Violet Beauregard at the table!
Natasha Zinko (or “Kinko“, as my mum calls her)
19/02/17 pm, the BFC presentation space. We’ve been a loyal follower of Natasha and her mass of red curly hair for a long time. Sometimes her collections can be a little too vanilla for our liking, but this one was FIRE…or maybe candy floss, seeing as there was a lot of that vibe floating around!
Zinko brought the retro disco to 180 Strand! The models danced around in bubble gum blue and candy pink polka dots, making formal blazers and suit style trousers seem way more fun than they should be.
20/02/17 pm, the BFC show space. Remember when we said we thought we’d peaked at Fyodor Golan? Well that wasn’t true, ASHISH was absolutely the top of the Himalayan mountain peak for us. It was a show we’d have sold our Gucci loafers to see…but luckily we didn’t have to make such heart breaking sacrifice! I’m no fashion drama queen, but the sparkly yellow brick road, the head-to-toe sequinned garmz and the beer belly male model in glitter, sent my heart into over drive and I think I couldn’t breath properly for quite a few hours after.
The collection encapsulated all the fun you’d get from a pack of fruit pastels, whilst at the same time using slogans like, “don’t give up the daydream”, and “you are lovelier than you think”, as a f**k you Trump!! It was completely YGSF in every way and the cherry on top of the sparkly rainbow cake was the Superhero/Mexican skull style face paint which covered the models faces. It was a much welcome addition to the maximalism, which projected the idea that it’s good to be different and embrace your quirks!
We are absolutely sure we will forever be following ASHISH’S magical yellow brick road…
